There are currently six multiplayer game modes (Battle Arena, League Arena, Team Deathmatch, Brawl and through custom games Elimination and The Pit) in Robocraft, and two singleplayer game modes (AI Deathmatch and Test).

Direct Access[ | ]

Apart from The Pit and Elimination game modes, these are available directly from the Play Menu.

Battle Arena[ | ]

Battle Arena is a 5v5 team-based game mode. Teams fight to capture "Mining Points" in order to charge up "The Annihilator". When The Annihilator reaches 100% charge, it fires an orbital strike beam, destroying the enemy team's Protonium Reactor and ending the match.

Mining Points[ | ]

There are three total mining points on each map. Any team's primary objective in the game mode is to capture these points. While your team holds a point, it will slowly charge up your Annihilator, while also providing your Protonium Reactor with a protective shield. This shield will heal allies extremely quickly, and enemies cannot shoot and will take damage when inside (modules, however, are still usable). If a team holds all three points, the shield around the other team's Protonium Reactor will fall, allowing enemies to steal protonium crystals off of it. These crystals represent the Annihilator's charge. If a team holds 3 points for a while, they will also become "Dominant", meaning they receive Annihilator charge much faster. The shield can be re-instated by simply capturing a mining point.

In order to capture a mining point simply stand on top of it for around half a minute (more teammates on the point will increase charge rate). Getting shot will not slow the capture process, but if an enemy is also standing on the mining point the process will be halted until they either leave or die. At the beginning of the game all mining points are neutral, meaning both teams can capture them.

The capture process has three segments. If you have captured a segment and were then killed, your team will not lose that segment until the point is captured, at which the enemy team can attempt to recapture it again. The capture status of all mining points can be seen through any object as a floating HUD element.

Protonite Core[ | ]

The Protonite Core (aka The Equalizer) is a game mechanic designed to give the losing team a chance to catch up to the other team. It appears as a large crystal stationed at the center of the map. At five minute intervals, the Equaliser will appear for one minute. The losing team's objective is to destroy it, whereas the winning teams objective is to defend it. If the losing team manages to destroy it within this time period, their Annihilator charge will be "equalized" to that of the winning team. This means that the losing team will instantly gain as much power as the enemy team. If it is not destroyed, the crystal will retreat back into the ground, nothing will change, and the game will continue.

Tips & Tricks[ | ]

  • At the start of the match, have only 1 or 2 players go to the near capture point, while the rest of the team goes to the middle point. There will most likely not be combat at near point this early in the game, so sending more people to the middle point will give you a higher chance of capturing it.
  • Sometimes instead of defending the Protonite Core, the winning team could focus on capturing points while the opposing team is gathering around the crystal and become distracted. This is particularly useful if you know that your team has no chance at defending the crystal.
  • When an opponent is capturing a mining point, try to surprise them and do as much damage to them before they realize. That way, you can finish them off easily, and hold the control point. A tip in doing so is to aim for their weapons first, so that they cannot fight back, then aim for their movement parts. That way you can secure the point while getting a kill along with it.
  • Capturing mining points is far more useful than killing your opponents. Killing enemy players but not capturing a mining point yields no benefit.
  • This mode forces people out from sniping points. It is inadvisable to bring a robot that is ill-suited for close-range combat.

League Arena[ | ]

League Arena is exactly the same as Battle Arena, except with the addition of an MMR system, with various ranks. When these ranks have been achieved, League Badges will be unlocked and rewarded. In this mode the entire winning team will earn Protonium crates, while the losing team will earn Gold crates. Crates have been removed as of May 16th, 2018.

Team Deathmatch[ | ]

Team Deathmatch is a 5v5 battle. In this game mode, a team's only objective is to gain kills. The first team to reach 25 kills, or the team with the most kills when the 10 minute timer runs out, wins. But if both teams have the same scores after 10 minutes, the match will enter 'Timeout' mode where the team who gets the next kill wins.

Tips & Tricks[ | ]

  • Focus on staying together and supporting each other.
  • Staying alive is key.

Brawl[ | ]

Brawl is a game mode with custom rules and game modes that change from time to time. This mode often gives bonus crates for a first win. The current rules and game mode are set by Freejam, the creators of Robocraft. For example, a custom rule could make weapons do double damage. Notably, Freejam recycles two game modes (but specific rules change), Elimination and The Pit. Information about these can be found in the Indirect Access section below.

Indirect Access[ | ]

These game modes cannot be accessed directly from the Play Menu, but can be accessed via Brawl and Custom Games.

Elimination[ | ]

Elimination, as the name suggests, is a game mode where two teams fight to the death with no respawns. It demands a well balanced robot that can survive well and also output enough damage to kill the enemy. There are 2 ways to win, either kill all of the enemies or capture the enemy cap point. Elimination is arguably the fastest game mode with matches sometimes taking only a few minutes.

Capturing[ | ]

The enemy base can be captured in four segments, much like the three segments of the Mining Point in Battle Arena. Once a segment has been captured, the enemy team cannot re-capture it. However, unlike the Mining Points, the capture process can be stopped by shooting someone on the base.

Tips & Tricks[ | ]

  • Make sure your robot has high damage resistance (high health or Electroshields) to minimize chances of death in combat.
  • Try to ask for a sniper to hide within line of sight of your home base. This allows your team to stop the enemies from capturing the base.

The Pit[ | ]

The Pit is a FFA (Free For All, also known as Deathmatch) battle with respawns. The goal is to get a score of 20, which is gained from killing other players. Bonus points can be aquired for killing the "leader" (player with the most score), or another player on a killstreak. The leader is indicated by a shining golden orb of energy in the leader's robot leaves a long golden trail.

Tips & Tricks[ | ]

  • Focus fire on the leader to gain more points.
  • Respawning does not make you worth less score, but it can be very effective to reset both your health and your position on the map quickly.

Local Modes[ | ]

These game modes are singleplayer, and are mainly used to test robots. However, despite being singleplayer, an internet connection is still required to play.

Test Robot[ | ]

This is not an actual gamemode, but more of a miscellaneous level. "Test Robot" is a simple "Holo-level" that has no terrain textures, and is intended to testing the player's robot. It provides a climbing wall, hilly terrain, targets, and a ramp.

Versus AI[ | ]

Versus AI is a Team Deathmatch gamemode, with AI teammates and AI enemies. This is mostly used for testing the players' robot's capabilities in combat. The AI robots are not very intelligent, so it can be good for new players to get used to the in-game mechanics.

Campaign Mode[ | ]

Campaign Mode is a newer feature for Robocraft, introduced just before the Infinity update. This gamemode is a test of skill under limitations. You are alone, fighting multiple identical AI bots per wave (up to 20) over 5 waves, culminating in a single Megabot in wave 5. Each of them are themed, with one having targets you can shoot to degun and remove movement, and another featuring animal themed bots, for example. There are 5 ranks, with 5 lives, 4 lives, 3 lives, 2 lives, and 1 life, making the Protonium difficulty extremely challenging to pass. In addition, you are limited to certain tiers of parts and below, or certain movements, making these battles very specialized. None so far have allowed you to take a Megabot into battle.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Originally, a gamemode called "The Hub" which was designed to be a place where you could show off your bot to other players was intended to be a counterpart of The Pit was planned to be added into the game. However, this idea was scrapped during the early stages of development.
  • Due to decisions by the Devs, some AI bots will appear in online modes, typically in tiers with low activity.
